There are trends in fashion, food and home improvement. But did you know there are also trends in toilets? They might not be as beautiful or exciting as fashion or food, but improvements in toilet design and function should make every homeowner curious. From quieter flushing and dual-flush options to flapperless designs, there are a few recent upgrades in toilet function and design that deserve our attention.

Flapperless

When your toilet refuses to flush and the handle is limp, then you know the problem is the rubber stopper. Unfortunately, broken or malfunctioning flappers are the leading source of leaks in homes. A toilet model recently developed by Niagara Conservation called the Ecologic uses “innovative tip-bucket technology, creating a high-performance flush.” In addition, “They are maintenance free — eliminating the need to replace flappers, chains and levers. No double flushing needed.” With the Ecologic model, issues with the flapper are a thing of the past.

Noise Level

If you’ve ever jumped at the sound of a toilet flushing in a public restroom, then you’ve probably wondered why the flush has to be so terrifyingly loud. No fear, Gerber has heard your questions and has the solution. The company has developed QuietClean technology to make the flush significantly quieter — as it should be.

Dual-Flush

Dual-flush toilets have become more common, particularly in commercial buildings. Dual-flush toilets have separate flushing buttons for solid and liquid waste, helping to reduce the amount of water used per flush. These toilets also have a larger diameter trapway design to resist clogging. Visit you nearest home improvement store to check out the latest dual-flush toilet models.

Luxury Add-On

The sky’s the limit with luxury toilets. Choose from toilets with heated seats, automatic air deodorizers, illuminated touchpads, touchless flush, precise water usage, LED nightlights, touchscreen LCD remote controls and automatically opening and closing lids. The price tag for these toilets can run into thousands of dollars, but hey, for some the bathroom experience deserves the luxury treatment.
